Favorite Picks from Resort 2015

These are my favorite picks from the 2015 Resort collections so far including Elizabeth and James (I used an ampersand because there was not any space for the 'and'), Rag & Bone, and Sonia by Sonia Rykiel. I have always been a huge fan of Rag & Bone so it is not a surprise that they made it to my top three. Elizabeth and James, I feel, is quite underrated. They remind me so much of Acne, a brand that I cherish for their constant amazing work in minimalistic designs. The Olsen twins definitely do not get enough credit for their well thought out concepts and these looks are everything that I would covet in my own wardrobe. I have heard of Sonia Rykiel before, but never got around to research her past work. This collection blew me away with the attention to constructive detail and the usage of bold colors.

I had a discussion in one of my classes last semester on whether or not I am content with the way the fashion industry is running. It never occurred to me that there are things that can be changed to make fashion better for everyone including resourcing sustainable fabrics and being mindful of the amount of waste that is being contributed to our overall ecosystem. While fashion runs on a calendar, there are varying seasons that collections can come out from including: Pre-Fall, Fall/Winter, Resort, and Spring/Summer. The discussion that was laid out showed interesting differences in opinions as some of my classmates felt that Pre-Fall and Resort seasons were sort of unnecessary because they are smaller collections that do not necessarily tie into the following larger collection later on in the season. I can see how producing too much of something (regardless of how amazing they are) can really damage our environment and be quite wasteful as not every collection will sell out and some garments do end up tossed somewhere. I am torn between the two as I like seeing something different from the designers, but I understand the cost that it can bring in adding additional waste or stress to our beloved designers.

What do you think about this subject manner? Do you think it is necessary for designers to pump out four collections throughout the year? Also, which of the three collections did you like from this post? If yours did not make it on here, which designer did you think nailed the resort look for 2015?
