Seattle's Food

Max's Cafe
2200 5th Ave
Seattle, WA 98121

Located as a part of Hotel Five's cafe, it was the first official meal that I had in Seattle. My goal was to have lox every breakfast, but that ended up failing towards the end of the trip. No matter, I still enjoyed my meals none of the less. Max's Cafe was a tad bit pricey, but if you check in with Yelp, you will get a $5 coupon, to which I highly recommend you use. The lox, cream cheese, bagel, and pickled onions were absolutely delectable. It was because of this meal that I decided to bring back my love for bagels and cream cheese.

Bell Thai
2211 4th Ave
Seattle, WA 98121

Every Thai restaurant that I have ever gone always had a very poor rating on Yelp. Unless you grew up with guardians who are of Thai descent, I am pretty sure that these people are just really picky with their Thai food. I had a blast here and by blast I mean the food was absolutely delicious. The price? Favorable. The food? Remarkable. The service? Hilarious. I loved Bell Thai and wish that I could find the same quality in Thai food that I did in Seattle here in Southern California. This place gets the Michelle's Thumbs Up.

Hotel Five
2200 5th Ave
Seattle, WA 98121

I cannot tell if I am adding this just for the heck of it or because I sincerely love their free pineapple cupcakes. The best part? They are free. The second best part? They have toasted coconut shavings on top of their cupcakes. I am not one to eat cake at all. In fact, I am so lactose-intolerant that I cannot have cake. My stomach will hate me forever. These cupcakes are hands down the best cupcakes ever. They are mini cupcakes, but you can take as many as you want. Haha, get it? Many? Mini? No? Well, try them if you stay at Hotel Five because they are worth every single bite.

Athenian Inn
1517 Pike Pl
Seattle, WA 98101

Athenian Inn was the only restaurant that I went to twice. One of our goals on this trip was to not repeat restaurants, but due to us being hungry and the fact that my friend was new to this restaurant, we decided why not? I got the same thing I ordered when we ate at Athenian the first time and it was the bagel, cream cheese, and lox (yep, there is no shocker here). The only difference between this bagel, cream cheese, and lox was the fact that the salmon was absolutely red. I could not tell the difference between the tomato slices and the lox. Talk about fresh salmon! It was definitely worth the price and worth the quality to eat a second time around. This place gets the Michelle's Thumbs Up.

P.F. Chang's China Bistro
400 Pine St, Ste 136
Seattle, WA 98101

I have been to P.F. Chang's before, so it was not new to me however it was new to my friend. Because I have been accustomed to eating at P.F. Chang's, I did not expect super amazing food. Surprisingly enough, I was surprised by the deliciousness of the meal that I got. We went for our waiter's suggestion in doing the "Four-Course Prix-Fixe Menu" which only cost us $40 total. We got the hot & sour soup and egg drop soup, beef á la sichuan, crispy honey chicken, and our waiter's suggestion in dessert: Banana Spring Rolls which has six warm, crispy bites of banana served with coconut-pineapple ice cream and drizzled with caramel and vanilla sauces. Yes, this place also gets the Michelle's Thumbs Up due to the amazing service that our waiter gave to us.

Artisan Cafe
2523 5th Ave
Seattle, WA 98121

I will be and always will be a sucker for amazing cafes. This place was by far the most amazing cafe I have ever been to. So you know how I have been getting the bagel, cream cheese, and lox for breakfast? Those can go from $11-14 a pop. Do you even want to guess how much my bagel, cream cheese, and lox cost me here at the Artisan Cafe? It was only $5-6 and not only that, but it was toasted to perfection. Located pretty close to the Space Needle, it has a quaint feel and the owners are really kind. If you feel like going for some Vietnamese Banh Mi, they got you covered here as well. This cafe gets the Michelle's Thumbs Up.

Yardhouse
1501 4th Avenue
Seattle, WA 98101

I got the cilantro lime grilled shrimp which was composed of marinated in lime, garlic and cumin shrimp with spicy hummus and a brown rice sun-dried tomato tabouleh. The shrimp was not memorable, but the brown rice sun-dried tomato tabouleh was. Because my friend and I got the smaller portions of our meals, we decided to go ahead and order dessert, to which won me over entirely. We got the Kona coffee ice cream sundae which was made up of java chip ice cream topped with Oreo cookie crumbles, macadamia nuts, and chocolate sauce served with a macadamia nut cookie. Mouth full to say? More like mouth watering to think about. This place gets the Michelle's Thumbs Up.

Lowell's Restaurant
1519 Pike Pl
Seattle, WA 98101

So if you recall from my last post on why I did not get my lox and cream cheese for breakfast, it was because we were sucked into the Seahawk's rally (we really enjoyed ourselves there). As if by a happy accident, we managed to find ourselves at Lowell's, located right next to the Athenian Inn. I got the grilled salmon sandwich with a side of fries and it was enough to make me wish there was accessible salmon here in Southern California. It was no lox, but it was absolutely scrumptious. I highly suggest that if you want to try this place out, try avoiding the lunch rush. You will have to wait a bit, but all that waiting will pay off. This place also gets the Michelle’s Thumbs Up.

TanakaSan
2121 6th Ave
Seattle, WA 98121

Originally, I was planning on eating at Lola. Unfortunately Lola had a 45 minute wait, a time span that my friend and I could not wait for. We could have gone to Dahlia, which is a sister restaurant of Lola's, but we were given a 10% off coupon to a newer sister restaurant of Lola's called TanakaSan. Already having seen the harsh reviews, I anticipated myself for a terrible experience. Instead, the food was amazing, but the portions did not justify the cost of the things that I had ordered like the two very small mushroom baos and the okonomiyaki that they called Osaka's pancake. It was good, but the cost would deter me from coming back again.

Places worth mentioning that were not photographed:

600 Pine S
Seattle, WA 98101
If all you need is a coffee boost while you are roaming around the stores of Pacific Place, this will definitely provide that for you. While I have never heard of Il Fornaio before (there is one located in Irvine), this mini version of the restaurant/bakery reminds me a lot of Corner Bakery, Panera Bread, and Champagne except probably a little more expensive. All I got was a vanilla latte and shared a small tiramisu cake with my friend. The price definitely was a bit out there just for coffee cake. I think I could have been perfectly fine with just Starbucks for the quality but at a more affordable price. Still, the coffee was pretty good, the staff were patient with us, and the cake hit the spot.

Purple Dot Cafe
515 Maynard Ave S
Seattle, WA 98104

On the day that I landed in Seattle, a friend took me to a restaurant that was graciously open at the late hours of the night that we were there. Now I cannot say that I really enjoyed my meal given the fact that I had nothing to eat outside of what I had for breakfast, but at 11pm at night and with food in front of me, I just wanted to consume anything. I ordered the beef brisket expecting it to be an entree only it was a soup beef brisket made to be eaten with other stuff. Fair warning, though, make sure you check your utensils before you decide to use them. I found my chopsticks were sticky and stuck together. No matter, I ended up using a fork the entire time.

Din Tai Fung
700 Bellevue Way NE
Bellevue, WA 98004

I will be honest in saying that I have no idea what Din Tai Fung was. In fact, the name only registered in my head after I associated it with the one that is opening at South Coast Plaza. It is supposedly known as the best place to get dim sum and noodles because they are made fresh. It is not like other dim sum restaurants where they make it the night before and freeze it and then reheat it again before serving it to you. This was the real deal. I ordered the shrimp dumpling and spicy shrimp and pork dumplings. I could have stopped there, but the pork bao made my mouth water. I forgot how much this place cost me, but it was totally worth it. This place gets the Michelle's Thumbs Up.

Oasis Tea Zone
519 6th Ave S
Seattle, WA 98104

Fair warning, this is my take on this place as it reminds me of every boba place (or bubble tea/tapioca) that is located in Southern California. Filled with teenagers of all ages, guys who wear matching colored sneakers with their snap backs, and young girls who probably should not be out late at night as well as in very tight mini skirts and jeans, this is a place filled with territorial children. Okay, maybe that was a bit mean. Let me review what I had here: passion fruit green tea. As always, it tastes like every passion fruit green tea that I have ever had, but it was still good none of the less. My final thoughts? Take it to-go lest you want to spend your night wondering why you chose not to in the first place.

Pochi Lifestyle Cafe
1211 164th St SW
Lynnwood, WA 98087

Okay, so I did not order anything from here, but the service and the crowd was nice. Unlike the boba place mentioned before, this place is quite nice and clean. In fact, I was able to see the floor and the tables were really clean. I like the fact that you can play board games here and watch movies as well. The employees seemed like they really enjoyed working there and it looked like my friends really enjoyed their drinks. What more could you ask for in a boba store? Oh, they also sell things outside of boba like food as well.

Mizuki Buffet
17950 Southcenter Pkwy
Tukwila, WA 98188

Buffets, how I loathe thee. For I grew up with a mother who loved to eat but was too picky to work with so my memories of buffets were of those that were not worth trying out. I would mention them, but I am going to assume that not every buffet that I have tried meant that the entire branch of them sucked. It just so happens that every time I go to a different one, it sucked. Mizuki was the exception. Sushi, seafood (including lobster, crab, crawfish, shrimp), dim sum, salad, American food (mashed potatoes with gravy, carved beef), a chocolate fountain, fruit salad, and an ice cream/dessert bar. Yes, my mouth is also watering. It was well worth the price that it was per person and it was by far the only buffet that I will ever be happy to go to. Mom, I love you, but you need to stop taking me to Hometown Buffet. This place gets the Michelle's Thumbs Up.
